Doula Services
“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.”
– John Kennell, M.D., pediatrician
What is a doula? A doula is a woman who is professionally trained in childbirth to provide an emotional, physical, and educational support to help women have a positive birth experience. The doula’s role is not to take the place of your husband/partner or other labor support person but to complement and enhance the experience for you both.
With the Support of a Doula There is:
Reduce need for medical interventions.
Decreased cesarean rate.
Shorter length of labor.
Reduce request for pain medications or an epidural.
Understanding and much more!
Sometimes, when birth doesn’t go as planned and medical interventions or a cesarean is needed, the situation leaves the mother feeling unprepared, disappointed, and alone. In this case your doula will provide emotional, informational, and physical support.
As a birth doula, I will provide emotional and physical support during your labor and delivery. I will offer reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for your comfort.
During your pregnancy, I will help you enjoy your pregnancy and prepare your for your labor and birth. I’m a text or call away—in times of doubt, fear or frustration.
During your labor, I’ll be by your side to support and comfort you. I will help create a positive and calm environment so you can have the best birth possible. Once your baby is here, I will provide initial breastfeeding support, as needed, and an in-home postpartum visit to help you with life at home with your newborn.
